Privacy Policy

Overview
SongTyping is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that data.
Data we collect
- Usage data: We collect anonymous usage statistics such as songs played and play counts to improve the service and display popularity rankings.
- Account data (optional): If you choose to sign in with Google, we store your name, email address, and profile photo to power features like favourites and your play history. You can use SongTyping without signing in.
- Cookies & similar technologies: We and our partners (see below) use cookies and your browser's local storage for analytics, advertising, and to remember your preferences.
Cookies and analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site (pages viewed, songs played, general location). This helps us improve SongTyping. Google Analytics sets cookies and processes data under Google's privacy policy. You can opt out using Google's Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
Advertising
- SongTyping may display ads served by Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies and device identifiers to serve and measure ads, and (based on your settings) to personalise them using your prior visits to this and other websites.
- You can control ad personalisation at Google My Ad Center, and opt out of personalised advertising from many vendors at aboutads.info/choices.
- Visitors in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland are shown a consent prompt before personalised ads are served, and can change that choice at any time.
- For more detail, see How Google uses information from sites that use its services.
Third-party services
- YouTube: Song videos are embedded via YouTube's IFrame API. YouTube's own privacy policy applies to video playback.
- Genius: Song lyrics and metadata are sourced from the Genius API for educational and personal use.
- PayPal: If you buy an access pass from our passes page, PayPal handles the payment and its own privacy policy applies to whatever you enter there. PayPal tells us that the payment succeeded and for how much, along with your name and the email address on your PayPal account. We never receive or store your card or bank details. See "Purchases" below for what we keep.
Purchases
Buying a pass creates a record we keep on our own servers, separate from PayPal. For each purchase we store the PayPal order and capture reference, which pass you bought, the amount and currency, the date, and your account ID and email address. We also store the date your access expires, and which songs your free trial was spent on.
We keep this for three reasons and no others: to know whether your access is currently valid, to make sure a single payment can never be counted twice, and to be able to find and refund a payment if you ask us to. We do not use it for advertising or profiling, and we do not sell it.
Purchase records are kept as long as we may need them for refunds, disputes, and tax or accounting obligations — typically seven years, which is longer than the rest of your account data. Because of that, deleting your account does not erase completed purchase records, though we will disconnect them from your profile on request. We never hold your card or bank details at any point.
